Averys of Bristol holds a legendary place in the history of the UK wine trade, particularly for their historic import and bottling of Madeira. The 'Campanario' bottling pays homage to the spectacular, steep volcanic terraces of Campanário, a parish nestled along the dramatic southern cliffs of Madeira. Historically, Bristol was the primary gateway for Madeira wines entering Britain, where merchants like Averys would receive casks directly from the island to age and bottle in their cool, damp cellars. This wine represents the traditional style of Madeira, shaped by the island's unique heating process—either through the gentle warmth of the Canteiro system or historic Estufagem—which caramelizes the sugars and oxidizes the wine, rendering it virtually indestructible and imbued with complex notes of dried fruits, burnt orange peel, toffee, and a distinctive, vibrant acidity.

Averys blev grundlagt i Bristol i 1793 og hører til blandt Storbritanniens ældste og mest agtede vinhandlere og négociants. Gennem generationer har visionære personligheder som Ronald Avery og sønnen John Avery MW opbygget huset, der var blandt de første til at opdage og importere toneangivende vine direkte fra klassiske europæiske områder og fremadstormende oversøiske terroirs. Averys er berømt for sin historiske ekspertise inden for fadlagring og aftapning på egne kældre.
