The story of Moscatel Roxo is one of survival and revival. Once on the brink of extinction due to its low yields and delicate nature, this rare pink-skinned mutation of Muscat was saved by dedicated producers on the Pen nsula de Set bal, with Bacalh a playing a pioneering role in its resurrection. Grown on the clay-limestone slopes of the Ar r bida hills, the grapes benefit from a unique microclimate cooled by Atlantic breezes. The traditional winemaking process involves a brief fermentation followed by fortification with high-quality wine spirit. The wine then undergoes an extended winter maceration on the skins for several months before being aged for five years in seasoned oak casks. This meticulous process yields a luscious, amber-hued fortified wine celebrated for its complex aromas of bitter orange peel, rose petals, honey, and subtle spices.
