Bacardi Carta Negra, historically known as Bacardi Black, represents a rich legacy of Caribbean distillation that began in Cuba in 1862 before finding its modern home in Cataño, Puerto Rico. According to distillery lore, the iconic bat logo was suggested by the founder's wife, Doña Amalia, who noticed fruit bats nesting in the rafters of the original distillery—a symbol of good fortune, family unity, and health in Spanish and Taíno culture. This dark, medium-bodied spirit is crafted by the Maestros de Ron Bacardí using a proprietary blend of rums aged in heavily charred white oak barrels, then shaped through a secret mix of charcoals. The result is a robust profile defined by notes of sweet tropical fruit, molasses, buttery caramel, and a warm, smoky finish.

Established in Santiago de Cuba in 1862 by Don Facundo Bacardí Massó, Bacardí revolutionized rum production by introducing proprietary cultured yeast strains, continuous column distillation, and pioneering charcoal filtration to yield a refined, light-bodied spirit. Following the expropriation of family assets during the Cuban Revolution, operations transitioned to Puerto Rico, centering on the monumental Casa Bacardí facility in Cataño—affectionately known as the "Cathedral of Rum." Situated along San Juan Bay, the distillery leverages tropical maritime maturation, where elevated Caribbean heat and humidity accelerate ester development and barrel extraction in charred American white oak casks.
