Mapu, meaning 'land' or 'earth' in the native Mapuche language, pays homage to the ancestral roots of Chile's Central Valley. Created by the legendary house of Baron Philippe de Rothschild, this Gran Reserva Carmenere represents a bridge between French winemaking savoir-faire and the unique Chilean terroir. Carmenere, the historic Bordeaux variety that was lost to phylloxera only to be rediscovered in Chile, finds its ultimate expression here. Grown in the sun-drenched vineyards of the Central Valley, the grapes benefit from a Mediterranean climate with cooling influences from the Andes. The Gran Reserva undergoes careful selection and traditional aging in oak barrels, yielding a wine that beautifully balances intense black fruit flavors, characteristic notes of black pepper and roasted cocoa, and a velvety, rounded structure.
