The Bedrock Vineyard Heritage Red is a liquid monument to California's viticultural history. Sourced from the iconic Bedrock Vineyard in Sonoma Valley, originally planted in 1888 by Senator George Hearst, this wine is a traditional field blend. It is dominated by ancient-vine Zinfandel, Carignan, and Mourvรจdre, co-fermented with over twenty other heirloom varieties including Alicante Bouschet, Syrah, and Petite Sirah that were interplanted by pioneering immigrants. The vineyard's cobbly, well-drained soils and cool afternoon breezes from the San Pablo Bay yield fruit of remarkable concentration and bright acidity. Winemaker Morgan Twain-Peterson MW employs minimal-intervention techniques, using native yeast fermentations and aging in mostly used French oak barrels to allow the unique voice of this centenarian vineyard to speak clearly. The resulting wine is deeply complex, offering a tapestry of dark bramble fruit, cracked black pepper, exotic spices, and a structured, savory finish.
