Nestled high on the slopes of Howell Mountain in Napa Valley, the Bancroft Ranch Vineyard has been a cornerstone of Beringer's single-vineyard program since the mid-1980s. Originally planted in 1984, this vineyard sits above the fog line, where intense sunlight and well-drained, white volcanic ash soils force the Merlot vines to struggle. This unique mountain terroir yields small, concentrated berries with thick skins, imparting a remarkable structural depth and mineral complexity rarely found in valley-floor Merlots. The wine is traditionally aged in French oak barrels, resulting in a powerful, age-worthy red that beautifully balances dark mountain fruit, cocoa, and savory herbs, carrying forward Beringer's pioneering legacy in Napa Valley winemaking.
