Bollinger's signature Special Cuvée is the ultimate expression of the house's traditional style, first named in 1911 by William Vallec, Bollinger's British agent, who found the French term 'Sans Année' far too mundane for a wine of such nobility. This rich, deeply structured Champagne is crafted predominantly from Pinot Noir, sourced mainly from Grand and Premier Cru vineyards. It owes its distinctive complexity to the house's meticulous methods, including primary fermentation in seasoned oak casks and the addition of mature reserve wines aged for up to fifteen years in magnums under cork. The final blend undergoes a minimum of three years of cellar aging on its lees, resulting in a golden-hued masterpiece boasting aromas of roasted apples, brioche, and fresh walnuts, supported by a remarkably creamy mousse and a vibrant, mineral-driven finish.

Founded in 1829 in the historic village of Aÿ by Jacques Bollinger, Paul Renaudin, and Hennequin de Villermont, Champagne Bollinger is one of the region's most prestigious and fiercely independent family-owned houses. Renowned for its Pinot Noir-dominated blends and traditional production methods, Bollinger uniquely ferments its vintage wines in seasoned oak casks and maintains an extensive library of reserve wines aged in magnums under cork. The house's signature style is defined by its rich complexity, structure, and depth, best exemplified by legendary cuvées like Special Cuvée, La Grande Année, and the late-disgorged R.D. Additionally, Bollinger preserves a rare piece of viticultural history with its ungrafted, pre-phylloxera Pinot Noir vines used to produce the ultra-exclusive Vieilles Vignes Françaises.
