β¨ Technical Specifications
Boschendal's Appellation Series represents a dedicated exploration of South Africa's finest cool-climate terroirs, specifically sourcing from the high-altitude, cool-climate vineyards of the Elgin valley within the Cape South Coast region. In this unique microclimate, enveloped by cold ocean breezes and frequent mountain mists, the Merlot grapes undergo a slow, extended ripening period. This preserves their natural acidity and coaxes out intense, pure varietal characteristics that are often lost in warmer regions. The wine is crafted with minimal intervention, utilizing gentle pump-overs and aging in select French oak barrels to yield a sophisticated, structured red wine. It beautifully balances ripe dark forest fruits with an elegant herbaceous undertone and fine-grained, velvety tannins, reflecting the estate's centuries-old winemaking heritage in a modern, terroir-driven style.
