Originally released under the pioneering Montana label—which later rebranded internationally as Brancott Estate to honor its Marlborough roots—this wine showcases the classic Bordeaux-style blends of Hawke's Bay. Hawke's Bay, located on the eastern coast of the North Island, is New Zealand's oldest and second-largest wine region, celebrated for its sunny climate and free-draining alluvial gravels. This terroir provides the heat units and soil structure necessary to fully ripen Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The blend typically marries the structure, dark currant fruit, and fine-grained tannins of Cabernet with the fleshy plum fruit and velvety texture of Merlot, resulting in an approachable yet classic red structured by moderate oak aging.
