While 'Soil Selection' is not a standard standalone commercial release for Brokenwood, the estate is globally renowned for its mastery of Hunter Valley Semillon, a style defined entirely by soil and terroir. Brokenwood's Semillon grapes are traditionally sourced from iconic sandy, alluvial loam creek flats—soils that provide the perfect drainage and low fertility required to yield pristine, high-acid fruit. Hunter Valley Semillon is one of the wine world's great anomalies: harvested early at low sugar levels and fermented entirely in stainless steel without any oak contact, it is incredibly light and zesty in its youth. Over years in the cellar, however, it undergoes a magical transformation, developing rich, complex notes of beeswax, toasted brioche, and lemon curd without ever losing its vibrant line of acidity.
