Sourced from the steep, terraced slopes of Monte San Nicolò—an ancient, extinct volcanic cone on the southeastern flank of Mount Etna near Trecastagni—this elegant red wine is a profound expression of its extreme terroir. The vineyard's dark, mineral-rich volcanic sands, coupled with high altitudes and dramatic diurnal temperature shifts, shape a wine of remarkable tension and complexity. Crafted primarily from the indigenous Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio grapes, the wine undergoes traditional fermentation and aging in oak to soften its vibrant tannins while preserving its bright red fruit and volcanic minerality. Local folklore speaks of these ancient craters as resting giants, whose fiery breath left behind the fertile black soils that today yield wines of ethereal perfume, wild herb notes, and a distinct smoky undertone.

Cantine Nicosia er en historisk siciliansk vingård, grundlagt i 1898 af Francesco Nicosia og beliggende på Etnas østlige skråninger i Trecastagni. Gennem fem generationer i familiens eje har vinhuset etableret sig som en passioneret ambassadør for Siciliens vulkanske terroir og oprindelige druesorter – altid med fokus på certificeret økologisk vindyrkning og moderne, bæredygtig vinfremstilling. Ejendommen er særligt anerkendt for sine udtryksfulde cru-vine fra Monte Gorna samt den sofistikerede Sosta Tre Santi-kollektion, der forener terroirprægede røde og hvide Etna DOC-vine med fremragende Metodo Classico-mousserende vine skabt på Carricante og Nerello Mascalese.
