✨ Technical Specifications
Though categorized under 'Other' due to its status as a world-famous distilled spirit rather than a traditional grape wine, Captain Morgan Original Spiced Gold carries a rich legacy rooted in the Caribbean. Named after the legendary 17th-century Welsh privateer Sir Henry Morgan, who eventually became the Lieutenant Governor of Jamaica, this iconic beverage embodies the adventurous spirit of maritime history. It is crafted from a blend of Caribbean rums infused with select spices and natural flavors, then aged in charred white oak barrels. This aging process imparts its signature golden color, smooth texture, and rich notes of vanilla, brown sugar, and warming spices.
🍾 About the Producer
Captain Morgan was established in 1944 when Seagram CEO Samuel Bronfman acquired the Long Pond Distillery in Trelawny, Jamaica, along with a proprietary spiced rum recipe developed by Kingston pharmacists, the Levy Brothers. Now owned by global beverage company Diageo (with Jamaican-market bottlings produced via J. Wray & Nephew), the brand traces its historical lineage to northwest Jamaica's sugar belt and the broader Caribbean. Fermented from sugarcane molasses and processed using continuous column distillation as well as traditional pot stills, the marque matures in charred American white oak ex-bourbon casks to extract foundational wood sugars, toast, and vanilla. After maturation, select distillates are blended and infused with indigenous Caribbean spices and botanical extracts. Benchmark expressions include the iconic Original Spiced Gold, Dark Rum, The Original, and Black Label, all characterized by notes of brown sugar, warm baking spices, and rich caramel.
