Hailing from the pioneering Paredones vineyard, situated a mere six kilometers from the chilly waters of the Pacific Ocean, Casa Silva's Cool Coast Syrah represents a daring leap into Chile's extreme coastal viticulture. Historically, this region was deemed far too cold for red grape varieties, reserved instead for pastoral farming. Casa Silva defied skeptics by planting Syrah in these decomposed granite and clay soils. The maritime influence is absolute: morning fogs and constant, bracing sea breezes slow the ripening process to a crawl. This extended hang-time coaxes out an incredibly elegant, cool-climate expression of Syrah reminiscent of the Northern Rhône. It trades jammy richness for vibrant acidity, fine-grained tannins, and a complex aromatic profile dominated by freshly cracked black pepper, violet, and dark bramble fruit, partially aged in French oak to add subtle structure.
