The story of Casa Silva's Sauvignon Gris is one of accidental preservation and viticultural triumph. Planted in 1912 at the family's historic Angostura estate in the Colchagua Valley, these pre-phylloxera massal selection vines are among the oldest of their kind in the world. For decades, this block was forgotten, grouped alongside other white varieties, until ampelographical research and DNA testing in the late 1990s revealed its true identity as Sauvignon Gris—a rare pink-skinned mutation of Sauvignon Blanc originally from Bordeaux. Casa Silva pioneered the revival of this grape in Chile, crafting a wine that showcases the incredible depth of these centenarian vines. The wine is typically fermented in stainless steel with extended lees contact, resulting in a beautifully textured white with vibrant acidity, mineral tension, and complex aromas of white peach, ginger, and floral notes.

Viña Casa Silva blev grundlagt i 1997 af Mario Pablo Silva og hans far, Mario Silva Cifuentes, som en formel videreførelse af en stolt vindyrkningstradition i Colchagua Valley, der startede helt tilbage i 1892 med den franske forfader Emilio Bouchon. Med udgangspunkt i de historiske kældre fra det 19. århundrede i Angostura råder familien over egne vinmarker fordelt på vidt forskellige terroirs i Chiles Central Valley og kystnære bjerge – heriblandt Angostura, Lolol og det kølige, maritime Paredones blot få kilometer fra Stillehavet. Jordbundsforholdene veksler mellem forvitret granit, alluviale aflejringer af grus og fint sandet ler, hvilket sikrer en fremragende dræning.
