The legendary Clos d'Ambonnay is a tiny, walled jewel of a vineyard measuring a mere 0.68 hectares, nestled in the heart of the Grand Cru village of Ambonnay on the southeastern slopes of the Montagne de Reims. This exceptional parcel has been protected by stone walls since the 18th century, nurturing pure Pinot Noir vines that benefit from a unique, chalky microclimate. The 2002 vintage is widely celebrated as one of the greatest Champagne harvests in modern history, defined by a warm, dry summer and flawless autumn ripening that bestowed the grapes with unparalleled concentration and vibrant acidity. Maison Krug was established in Reims in 1843 by visionary merchant Joseph Krug, who sought to craft the most generous expression of Champagne annually, regardless of climatic variations. Situated in the heart of Champagne, the maison draws fruit from premier and grand cru parcels spanning the limestone-rich terroirs of the Montagne de Reims, Côte des Blancs, and Vallée de la Marne, supplemented by historic walled monopoles like Clos du Mesnil and Clos d'Ambonnay. Viticulture is conducted under rigorous sustainable standards, eschewing herbicides and synthetic insecticides while adhering to Viticulture Durable en Champagne (VDC) frameworks.
