✨ Technical Specifications
Cultivated on terraces of sandy gravel interspersed with compact clay and iron-rich 'crasse de fer' subsoils, this cuvée exemplifies classic Libournais character. Predominantly built around Merlot complemented by Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, vinification takes place in temperature-regulated stainless steel and concrete vats. Fermentation incorporates gentle pump-overs to facilitate delicate extraction before maturing in French oak barrels (a combination of new and seasoned staves) over 12 to 14 months to polish the tannins.
🍾 About the Producer
Château Haut-Laborde is a boutique Right Bank wine estate situated within the Lalande-de-Pomerol appellation, just north of Pomerol and Saint-Émilion in the Libournais district of Bordeaux. Managed by vigneron Jean-Lucien Vergne, the property operates on an intimate, garden-scale viticultural model where careful canopy management and sustainable farming practices preserve vine vigor and fruit purity. The estate's terroir is characterized by classic alluvial soils composed of sandy gravel, clay subsoils, and iron-rich crasse de fer, benefiting from a temperate maritime climate moderated by the nearby Barbanne and Dordogne waterways. Planting is dominated by classic Right Bank varieties, principally Merlot alongside small parcels of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Vinification emphasizes traditional temperature-controlled parcel-by-parcel fermentation followed by careful oak maturation, resulting in benchmark wines that show dark fruit, violets, subtle earth, and fine-grained, velvety tannins.
