The Fahrlay parcel is a prized, extremely steep sub-segment of the grand Pündericher Marienburg vineyard, distinguished by its rare, hard blue slate soil. This blue slate imparts a highly distinct, intensely saline, and deeply mineral character to the Riesling, contrasting with the red and grey slate found elsewhere in the Marienburg. The name Fahrlay historically refers to the ferry (Fähr) that crosses the Mosel river right below these sheer cliffs, combined with Lay, the old Celtic word for slate. Clemens Busch crafts this Grosses Gewächs (GG) using biodynamic farming, extremely low yields, and spontaneous fermentation in traditional, neutral oak Fuder casks. The wine undergoes extended lees contact, resulting in a dry Riesling of immense power, crystalline precision, and a signature smoky, salty finish that captures the dramatic, vertical landscape of the Mosel.

Situated in the picturesque village of Pünderich along the dramatic slopes of Germany's Middle Mosel, Weingut Clemens Busch has been led by Clemens and Rita Busch since taking over the historic family estate in the 1980s. Regarded as pioneering trailblazers of organic and biodynamic viticulture in the region, the estate is dedicated to natural, low-intervention winemaking that deeply respects the ecosystem. Their work centers around the legendary, south-facing Pündericher Marienburg hillside, where varying sub-parcels of gray, red, and blue slate are vinified separately to showcase pure terroir expression.
