Craigellachie, often referred to as the 'Bad Boy of Speyside,' was established in 1891 by the legendary Peter Mackie and Alexander Edward. Nestled in the heart of Speyside, the distillery is famous for its stubborn adherence to old-school production methods, most notably the continued use of traditional copper worm tubs to condense its spirit. This technique limits copper contact during condensation, resulting in a heavy, sulfurous, and muscular distillate. When matured in a refill barrel, such as this 'Full Cask' release, the wood takes a backseat. Instead of being dominated by intense first-fill oak characteristics, the refill barrel allows Craigellachie's signature character—rich, oily, with notes of grilled pineapple, sulfur, and robust malt—to shine through in its purest form.
