Craigellachie is often called the 'bad boy of Speyside' due to its stubborn adherence to traditional, old-school distilling methods. While most modern distilleries transitioned to space-saving shell-and-tube condensers, Craigellachie defiantly retained its copper worm tubs—coiled copper pipes cooled in open-air water tanks. This process limits copper contact, leaving heavy, sulfurous compounds in the spirit that develop into an extraordinarily muscular, meaty, and complex character over decades of maturation. The 33-Year-Old Small Batch is a legendary testament to this slow alchemy. Resting for over three decades in oak, the initial fiery sulfur has mellowed into a luxurious tapestry of charred pineapple, beeswax, toasted macadamia nuts, and a whisper of savory smoke. It represents a rare, liquid time capsule from one of Scotland's most uncompromising distilleries.
