First launched in the 1920s by the historic Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España (CVNE), Viña Real was named in tribute to the ancient Camino Real that once ran nearby. This Crianza represents a classic expression of Rioja Alavesa, where vineyards are sheltered by the Sierra de Cantabria and rooted in distinctive clay-limestone soils. The wine is primarily crafted from Tempranillo, complemented by small portions of Garnacha, Mazuelo, and Graciano. Utilizing gravity-flow methods at their state-of-the-art Laguardia winery, the grapes are processed gently before the wine undergoes aging in a combination of French and American oak barrels for over a year. The result is a beautifully balanced red, showcasing vibrant red berry fruit, subtle notes of vanilla, and a hint of sweet spice, capturing the elegant, fruit-forward soul of Alavesa.
