First released in the 1920s, Viña Real is one of the historic pillars of the legendary Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España (CVNE). Named in honor of the ancient Camino Real that once ran nearby, this wine was historically distinguished by its Burgundy-style bottle—a deliberate nod to the rounder, more elegant, and highly aromatic profile of Rioja Alavesa compared to the Bordeaux-shaped Imperial from Rioja Alta. Crafted primarily from Tempranillo grown in the clay-limestone soils of Elciego and Laguardia, and complemented by small portions of Garnacha, Graciano, and Mazuelo, this Reserva Especial undergoes meticulous aging in both French and American oak casks.
