Part of McLaren Vale's prestigious Scarce Earth project, 'The Eight Iron' is a single-vineyard Shiraz designed to showcase the highly specific terroir of the region. The name playfully references both the ironstone-rich soils of the area and the vineyard's unique location. Situated in the coastal Aldinga sub-region, the vines are cooled by maritime breezes from the Gulf St Vincent, growing in clay soils over limestone. This microclimate yields a Shiraz with intense dark fruit profiles, savory complexity, and structural elegance. In keeping with d'Arenberg's traditional philosophy, the fruit is foot-trodden, basket-pressed, and fermented in open-top fermenters before aging in seasoned French and American oak, ensuring the unique voice of the vineyard is clearly articulated.
