The Hermit Crab Viognier Marsanne is a wonderfully quirky and expressive white blend from McLaren Vale, named as a playful nod to the Hermitage appellation of France and the abundance of fossilized marine life—including hermit crabs—found in the region's ancient limestone soils. d'Arenberg was the first in Australia to commercially release a blend of these two classic Rhône varieties. To craft this wine, the grapes are gently pressed in traditional basket presses. A portion of the juice undergoes fermentation in seasoned French oak barriques to build a rich, textured mouthfeel, while the remainder is cool-fermented in stainless steel to preserve the vibrant, exotic fruit aromatics. The result is a beautifully balanced white showing luscious stone fruit characters alongside a savory, mineral complexity.
