Hailing from the historic 'The Other Side' vineyard in the Willunga sub-region of McLaren Vale, this exceptional single-vineyard Shiraz is sourced from ancient vines planted in 1916. The vineyard's name playfully hints at its position on the southern slopes of the Willunga Basin, where the vines dig deep into clay loam soils over limestone. True to d'Arenberg's time-honored, artisanal philosophy, the grapes undergo traditional foot-treading in open fermenters before being gently pressed in historic basket presses. The wine is then matured in a combination of new and older French and American oak barriques. This meticulous, hands-on process coaxes out a remarkably deep, complex profile characterized by dark plum, earthy spice, and structured, mineral-tinged tannins that reflect this unique terroir.
