The Twenty Eight Road Mourvèdre is named after the historic boundary road that runs alongside the vineyard where these prized grapes are grown. Historically in Australia, Mourvèdre (often known as Mataro) was utilized primarily for fortified wines or as a blending component. d'Arenberg was among the pioneers to elevate it to a single-varietal showcase. Sourced from low-yielding, dry-grown vines in the maritime climate of McLaren Vale, the fruit undergoes traditional foot-treading in open fermenters and is basket-pressed before aging in seasoned French and American oak barriques. This hands-on, old-school methodology preserves the grape's wild, rustic character, yielding a wine rich in dark berries, earthy spices, and savory complexity.
