✨ Technical Specifications

In the early to mid-20th century, Australia's wine industry was dominated by the production of fortified 'port-style' wines, and d'Arenberg was at the forefront of this tradition in McLaren Vale. The Vintage Fortified Shiraz is a liquid bridge to this golden era, crafted using highly traditional methods that have remained unchanged for generations. Hand-harvested Shiraz grapes from ancient, low-yielding McLaren Vale vines are gently foot-tred in open-top concrete fermenters. Before fermentation is complete, the wine is fortified with high-quality grape spirit, arresting fermentation to preserve the natural grape sugars. It is then pressed in the estate's historic basket presses and matured in seasoned oak casks. This process yields a fortified wine of immense power, complexity, and longevity, boasting rich notes of dark plum, licorice, warming spices, and savory earthiness.

🍾 About the Producer

Founded in 1912 by Joseph Osborn, d'Arenberg has grown into one of McLaren Vale's most iconic and storied family-owned estates in South Australia. Under the visionary stewardship of fourth-generation winemaker Chester Osborn, the winery adheres strictly to traditional, sustainable methods, utilizing certified organic and biodynamic viticulture along with foot-treading and basket pressing. Renowned for its eclectic naming conventions and distinctive red-stripe label, the estate crafts a wide spectrum of expressive wines with a particular mastery of RhΓ΄ne varieties, old-vine Grenache, and robust Shiraz. Signature bottlings such as 'The Dead Arm Shiraz' and 'The Ironstone Pressings' stand as benchmarks of regional depth, complexity, and age-worthy character.
