✨ Technical Specifications
The Pinot Gris Schimberg from Domaine Dirler-Cadé is a remarkable expression of a highly unique terroir. Located on the heights of the valley, the Schimberg lieu-dit is distinguished by its rare volcanic-sandstone soils, specifically Carboniferous volcanic tuffs and greywacke. This volcanic origin infuses the Pinot Gris with a striking, smoky minerality and a vibrant, tense acidity that beautifully balances the natural richness of the grape. Cultivated using strict biodynamic methods, the vines yield fruit of exceptional purity. Historically, the Schimberg slope has been prized for producing wines with a distinct saline edge and a structured, elegant profile quite different from the heavier, sweeter styles of Pinot Gris often found elsewhere in the region.
🍾 About the Producer
Established in 1871 in the southern Alsatian village of Bergholtz, Domaine Dirler-Cadé represents the union of two historic winegrowing families, merged in 2000 following the marriage of Jean Dirler and Ludivine Cadé. A pioneer of biodynamic viticulture in Alsace, the estate converted its vineyards to biodynamics in 1998 to respect natural biodiversity and preserve soil vitality. Their prime vineyard holdings encompass historic Grands Crus—including Kessler, Kitterlé, Saering, and Spiegel—alongside distinct lieux-dits such as Belzbrunnen and Schimberg. Dirler-Cadé is globally renowned for its bone-dry, terroir-driven Rieslings, vibrant Pinot Gris, aromatic Gewurztraminers, and finely textured Crémant d'Alsace sparkling wines.
