✨ Technical Specifications
Domaine Zind Humbrecht's Gewurztraminer Grand Cru Hengst is a single-varietal white wine produced from 100% Gewurztraminer grapes grown in the Hengst Grand Cru vineyard in Wintzenheim, Alsace. The terroir is characterized by marly-limestone soils and a warm, dry microclimate with south-to-southeast exposure, which imparts structure, power, and distinct acidity to the wine. Cultivated using certified biodynamic viticulture, the grapes undergo a slow, natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts in traditional large oak foudres, followed by extended aging on the lees. The resulting wine is typically intense, rich, and aromatic, balancing exotic fruit and spice notes with a firm mineral backbone.
🍾 About the Producer
Domaine Zind Humbrecht was established in 1959 through the merger of two historic Alsatian winemaking families whose viticultural heritage dates back to 1620. Located in Turckheim in the heart of Alsace, the estate gained international renown under the stewardship of Léonard Humbrecht and subsequently his son Olivier Humbrecht, France's first Master of Wine. A pioneer in organic and biodynamic viticulture, the domaine strictly crafts terroir-driven white wines with minimal intervention from legendary Grand Cru and lieu-dit sites such as Rangen de Thann, Clos Windsbuhl, and Hengst. They are celebrated globally for their extraordinarily concentrated, mineral-rich expressions of Riesling, Pinot Gris, and Gewurztraminer, ranging from impeccably balanced dry wines to opulent Vendanges Tardives and Sélection de Grains Nobles.
