The Clos Windsbuhl is an ancient, historic walled vineyard perched high above the picturesque village of Hunawihr, boasting a heritage that stretches back to the 14th century when it was owned by the royalty of Hungary and later the Habsburgs. Acquired by Domaine Zind Humbrecht in 1987, this south-to-southeast-facing monopole sits on a substrate of Muschelkalk (shell limestone) which, combined with its high elevation and cool microclimate, results in a late-ripening terroir of singular distinction. The Riesling produced here is defined by this limestone foundation, yielding a wine of crystalline purity, intense mineral tension, and a vibrant, laser-like acidity. Fermented slowly with indigenous yeasts and aged on its fine lees, this wine beautifully marries Alsatian power with an ethereal, saline elegance.

Formed in 1959 through the merger of two historic winegrowing families, Domaine Zind Humbrecht is located in Turckheim, Alsace, and is globally revered as a pioneer of biodynamic viticulture, having achieved certification in 1997 under the stewardship of Olivier Humbrecht MW. The estate meticulously manages legendary grand cru and single-vineyard sites, including Clos Windsbuhl, Clos Hauserer, and Hengst, where low yields and slow, natural fermentations preserve the pure expression of the terroir. Renowned for its uncompromising commitment to quality, the domaine produces highly concentrated, complex white wines from Riesling, Pinot Gris, and Gewurztraminer, ranging from bone-dry expressions to legendary late-harvest Vendanges Tardives and botrytized Sรฉlection de Grains Nobles.
