The Erdener Prälat is widely regarded as one of the greatest vineyards in the Mosel valley, a tiny, sun-drenched site blessed with an ideal south-southwest exposure and surrounded by towering, heat-retaining red slate cliffs. Dr. Loosen's 'GG Alte Reben' (Grosses Gewächs Old Vines) is sourced from ungrafted Riesling vines that are over a century old. This exceptional terroir, combined with the ancient rootstocks, yields a dry Riesling of unparalleled concentration and complexity. Historically, this prized parcel was associated with the church, hence the name 'Prälat' (Prelate). Ernst Loosen crafts this masterpiece using traditional winemaking techniques, including spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in large, neutral oak Fuder casks, followed by extended maturation on the lees.
