Hailing from the steep, southwest-facing slopes of the Mosel, Dr. Loosen's Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Auslese Nr14 is a sublime expression of one of Germany's most celebrated vineyards. The name Himmelreich translates to 'Kingdom of Heaven,' a fitting tribute to the celestial quality of the wines produced from its deep, water-retaining blue Devonian slate soils. This terroir imparts a distinct mineral intensity and crisp acidity to the 100% Riesling grapes. For this Auslese, winemaker Ernst Loosen selects individually hand-harvested bunches heavily influenced by noble rot (botrytis), concentrating the sugars and flavors. Fermented slowly in traditional oak Fuder casks, this wine beautifully balances rich sweetness with a vibrant, electric acidity, embodying the historic winemaking heritage of the Middle Mosel.

The historic Dr. Loosen estate has been in the Loosen family for over two centuries, situated along the dramatic, slate-lined slopes of the Middle Mosel in Bernkastel-Kues, Germany. Since taking over management in 1988, Ernst Loosen has revitalized the winery by strictly focusing on low yields, meticulous vineyard stewardship, and minimal intervention in the cellar. The estate is blessed with extraordinarily old, ungrafted Riesling vines in legendary Grand Cru (Grosse Lage) vineyards such as Erdener Prälat, Wehlener Sonnenuhr, and Bernkasteler Lay.
