The Wehlener Sonnenuhr, or 'Sundial of Wehlen,' is one of the Mosel's most legendary vineyards, named after the historic sundial erected in 1842 by Jodocus Pruem to guide vineyard workers. Dr. Loosen's Reserve Grosses Gewaechs (GG) Alte Reben represents the pinnacle of dry Riesling from this iconic site. Sourced from ungrafted, centenarian vines rooted deeply in pure blue Devonian slate, this wine undergoes a traditional vinification process. It is fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged on its full lees for 24 months in traditional 1,000-liter oak Fuder casks, followed by extensive bottle aging. This extended maturation tames the Mosel's fierce acidity, resulting in a dry Riesling of extraordinary depth, characterized by white peach, white flowers, intense flinty minerality, and a rich, texturally complex palate.
