First released in 1966, La Mouline is the oldest and most legendary of E. Guigal's iconic 'La La' trio. Sourced from an amphitheater-like parcel in the Côte Blonde, this vineyard boasts extremely old vines, some dating back to the 1930s. The terroir is characterized by gneiss and light-colored silicone-limestone soils, which impart an ethereal elegance to the wine. Uniquely, La Mouline is co-fermented with a significant proportion of the white grape Viognier, which softens the powerful Syrah and coaxes out intoxicating floral aromas of violets and honeysuckle. Following tradition, the wine undergoes an astonishing 40 months of aging in 100% new French oak barrels crafted in the estate's own cooperage, resulting in a seamless masterpiece of silkiness, complexity, and profound depth.

🍾 wine.about_producer

Founded in 1946 by Étienne Guigal in the ancient village of Ampuis, Domaine E. Guigal has become one of the Rhône Valley's most illustrious and influential wine estates. Now managed by Marcel and Philippe Guigal, the family is headquartered at the historic Château d'Ampuis, where they craft legendary wines that define the northern and southern Rhône. The estate is globally renowned for its iconic Côte-Rôtie single-vineyard bottlings—La Mouline, La Turque, and La Landonne—as well as the opulent Condrieu La Doriane. Their uncompromising production philosophy emphasizes extremely long barrel aging in their custom, in-house cooperage, resulting in wines of extraordinary depth, structure, and longevity.
