E. Guigal's Saint-Joseph 'Lieu-Dit' Rouge is sourced from the historic, steeply terraced vineyard of 'Lieu-Dit Saint-Joseph,' the very birthplace that gave the entire appellation its name. Originally cultivated by Jesuit priests in the 16th century, this legendary south-facing slope above the town of Tournon features decomposed granite soils that impart a distinctive mineral drive to the wine. Acquired by the Guigal family in 2001 from the esteemed Jean-Louis Grippat estate, this cuvée represents a masterclass in Northern Rhône Syrah. The grapes are hand-harvested from vines averaging 20 to 75 years old, followed by traditional fermentation and an elegant aging regime of approximately 16 months in oak barrels, half of which are new. The resulting wine is a profound expression of place, balancing intense black fruit, cracked black pepper, and violet aromas with a structured, stony finish.

Domaine E. Guigal blev grundlagt i 1946 af Étienne Guigal i den historiske landsby Ampuis og hører i dag til blandt de mest prestigefyldte og toneangivende vinhuse i Frankrigs Rhône-dal. Familiens stolte arv blev løftet til nye højder under Marcel Guigal og sønnen Philippe, hvilket blandt andet afspejles i den omhyggelige restaurering af renæssanceslottet Château d'Ampuis samt et kompromisløst fokus på langvarig fadlagring med eget bødkeri på ejendommen. Guigal er verdenskendt for at definere kvalitetsstandarden for vinavl i det nordlige Rhône og har opnået legendarisk status med sine uforlignelige Syrah-vine – herunder de ikoniske enkeltmarksvine fra Côte-Rôtie kendt som 'La-La-La-erne' (La Mouline, La Landonne og La Turque) – såvel som overdådige og aromatiske Viognier-vine som Condrieu La Doriane.
