Egon Müller's Le Gallais Wiltinger Braune Kupp Auslese Goldkapsel Versteigerung is a legendary monument of German winemaking. The Le Gallais estate, acquired by the Müller family in 1954, is centered around the steep, south-facing Wiltinger Braune Kupp vineyard on the Saar. Unlike the cool, grey slate of Scharzhofberg, the Braune Kupp is rich in iron-bearing red Devonian slate, imparting a warmer, more exotic fruit character and deep mineral structure to the 100% Riesling grapes. The 'Goldkapsel' designation indicates an elite selection of highly botrytized grapes, while 'Versteigerung' signifies that this extremely limited cuvée was sold exclusively at the prestigious annual VDP auction in Trier. Vinified in traditional neutral oak Fuder casks, this wine represents the pinnacle of sweet Riesling, balancing luscious sweetness with electric, crystalline acidity.
