The Scharzhofberg hill in the Saar valley is widely regarded as one of the world's greatest white wine terroirs, characterized by its weathered grey Devonian slate and cool microclimate. Under the stewardship of the legendary Egon Müller estate, whose winemaking heritage dates back to the late 18th century, this vineyard produces Riesling of unparalleled tension and longevity. The Eiswein is a rare masterpiece born of extreme risk: grapes must remain on the vine until a sudden, deep freeze strikes—typically at -7 degrees Celsius or lower—allowing them to be harvested and pressed while frozen. This process concentrates the sugars and vibrant acids to an extraordinary degree, leaving behind the water as ice. The resulting wine is a luscious, nectar-like expression of 100% Riesling, balancing intense sweetness with a laser-like beam of acidity and a profound mineral core.

Weingut Egon Müller-Scharzhof traces its heritage to 1797 when Jean-Jacques Koch acquired the historic estate, nestled in Wiltingen along the Saar valley within Germany's famed Mosel region.
