✨ wine.spec_sheet
Deep in the Saar valley, a sub-region of the Mosel, lies the legendary Scharzhofberg, one of the world's most revered white wine vineyards. Cultivated since Roman times and later managed by the medieval Monastery of St. Pauli in Trier, the estate was acquired by the Müller family in 1797 following the French Revolution. Egon Müller's Scharzhofberger Riesling Spätlese is a monumental expression of this steep, wind-swept, grey slate hillside. Crafted from 100% Riesling, the grapes are meticulously hand-harvested, sometimes with a touch of noble rot, and fermented in traditional large oak casks (Fuder). The wine is celebrated for its ethereal tension, balancing intense, honeyed stone fruit sweetness with a piercing, mineral-driven acidity that reflects its cool-climate terroir.

Established in 1797 when the Müller family acquired the historic estate, Weingut Egon Müller-Scharzhof is located in Wiltingen within the Saar sub-region of the Mosel, Germany. Today, the estate is meticulously managed by Egon Müller IV, who continues a multi-generational legacy of producing some of the world's most coveted and long-lived white wines. The winery is legendary for its peerless Rieslings sourced from the steep, slate-rich slopes of the iconic Scharzhofberg vineyard, as well as the Wiltinger Braune Kupp site under the Le Gallais label. Emphasizing traditional, low-intervention cellar practices and old, ungrafted vines, Egon Müller crafts exceptionally precise, mineral-driven, and exquisitely balanced Rieslings ranging from crisp QbA to legendary, auction-grade Auslese and Trockenbeerenauslese expressions.
