Egon Müller's Wiltinger Braune Kupp Riesling Auslese Goldkapsel Auktion represents the absolute zenith of Saar Riesling. Sourced from the historic Wiltinger Braune Kupp vineyard—a steep, south-facing amphitheater of iron-rich, reddish-brown Devonian slate managed by the Müller family under the Le Gallais estate since 1954—this wine is a masterclass in tension and botrytis selection. Unlike the cooler Scharzhofberg, the Braune Kupp's direct proximity to the Saar river yields a richer, more exotic fruit profile. The Goldkapsel designation denotes an exceptionally concentrated, noble rot-affected selection, while the Auktion status signifies that this micro-lot was produced exclusively for the prestigious annual VDP auction in Trier. Hand-harvested with obsessive grape-by-grape selection and fermented in traditional neutral oak Fuder casks, it marries intense, honeyed sweetness with a piercing, electric acidity and profound slate minerality.

🍾 wine.about_producer

Established in 1797 when the Müller family acquired the historic estate, Weingut Egon Müller-Scharzhof is located in Wiltingen within the Saar sub-region of the Mosel, Germany. Today, the estate is meticulously managed by Egon Müller IV, who continues a multi-generational legacy of producing some of the world's most coveted and long-lived white wines. The winery is legendary for its peerless Rieslings sourced from the steep, slate-rich slopes of the iconic Scharzhofberg vineyard, as well as the Wiltinger Braune Kupp site under the Le Gallais label. Emphasizing traditional, low-intervention cellar practices and old, ungrafted vines, Egon Müller crafts exceptionally precise, mineral-driven, and exquisitely balanced Rieslings ranging from crisp QbA to legendary, auction-grade Auslese and Trockenbeerenauslese expressions.
