✨ Technical Specifications
Hailing from the extreme, high-altitude terroir of San Pablo in the Uco Valley, situated at an breathtaking 1,400 meters above sea level, Zuccardi's Fósil Chardonnay is a masterclass in cool-climate viticulture. The wine's name, meaning 'fossil', pays tribute to the ancient marine fossils embedded within the calcium carbonate-rich alluvial soils of this unique Andean landscape. Crafted by winemaker Sebastián Zuccardi to express the raw, untamed energy of the mountains, the grapes are fermented in concrete vessels and used French oak barrels. By intentionally avoiding malolactic fermentation, the winery preserves the grape's electric, laser-like natural acidity, resulting in a white wine defined by its flinty, saline minerality, textured mouthfeel, and incredible tension.
🍾 About the Producer
Founded in 1963 by Alberto Zuccardi in Mendoza, Argentina, Familia Zuccardi has evolved into one of the country's most visionary and prestigious family-owned wine dynasties. Under the leadership of José Alberto Zuccardi and third-generation winemaker Sebastián Zuccardi, the estate has shifted its focus towards high-altitude viticulture in the Uco Valley, pioneering deep geological research and unadorned concrete-vessel fermentations to express genuine site specificity. Operating state-of-the-art facilities like the acclaimed Piedra Infinita winery in Paraje Altamira, Zuccardi produces benchmark, mineral-driven Malbecs such as Finca Piedra Infinita alongside benchmark expressions of Bonarda and Cabernet Sauvignon across red, white, sparkling, and fortified categories.
