Bodegas Faustino, established in 1861 in the heart of Rioja Alavesa, is globally recognized not only for its exceptional wines but also for the iconic Rembrandt portrait of Nicolaes van Bambeeck that adorns its bottles. The Icon Edition Reserva Especial represents a modern pinnacle of this historic estate's craftsmanship. Sourced from low-yielding, old-vine parcels of Tempranillo, complemented by a small touch of Graciano, and planted in the region's signature clay-limestone soils, this wine benefits from a unique microclimate shielded by the Sierra de Cantabria. Unlike the traditional long American oak aging of classic Riojas, the Icon Edition is aged predominantly in French oak barrels for approximately 18 months, resulting in a sophisticated marriage of intense dark fruit, refined spices, and structured, velvety tannins that bridges Rioja's rich heritage with contemporary elegance.

🍾 wine.about_producer

Founded in 1861 by Eleuterio Martínez Arzok, Bodegas Faustino is a historic estate located in Oyón, within the prestigious Rioja Alavesa region of Spain. Now managed by the fourth generation of the Martínez Zabala family, the winery has become globally synonymous with premium Rioja, particularly renowned for its iconic frosted bottles and long-aged Gran Reserva wines. Faustino's winemaking philosophy combines traditional Rioja aging in American and French oak casks with modern techniques, utilizing estate-grown Tempranillo, Graciano, and Mazuelo. Beyond their legendary red reservoirs like Faustino I, the estate also crafts elegant whites, rosés, and traditional-method Cava sparkling wines.
