Hailing from the historic Ried Hollerin vineyard in the Wachau, this Smaragd Riesling by F.X. Pichler captures a unique expression of the region's complex terroir. Positioned at the foot of the warm, sun-drenched slopes near Dürnstein, the Hollerin vineyard features a soil composition of weathered primary rock (gneiss) topped with layers of loess and fine sand. This specific geology, combined with the cooling breezes from the Danube, coaxes an incredibly aromatic, elegant, and mineral-driven profile from the Riesling grape. Crafted under the strict Smaragd guidelines—the highest quality tier of the Vinea Wachau—this wine is fermented in stainless steel and aged in large, neutral oak casks to preserve its vibrant fruit and structural purity. Historically, the Hollerin site has been prized for producing wines of immense charm and early accessibility compared to its steeper, more austere neighbors, yet it retains the signature longevity and depth that defines the Pichler legacy.

Weingut F.X. Pichler blev grundlagt i Oberloiben i 1898 og regnes i dag blandt de absolut førende topproducenter i østrigske Wachau. Vingården opnåede international kultstatus under Franz Xaver Pichler fra 1971 og frem, og i dag videreføres arven af syvende generation, Lucas Pichler, sammen med hustruen Johanna. Ejendommen råder over cirka 20 hektar vinmarker, der primært breder sig over stejle, håndbyggede stenterrasser med ursten, forvitret gnejs, amfibolit og løss. I det unikke mikroklima langs Donau, hvor varme pannoniske vinde møder kølige alpine luftstrømme, skaber Pichler monumentale, tørre hvidvine præget af knivskarp mineralsk præcision, dybde og exceptionelt lagringspotentiale. Familien har omlagt til certificeret økologisk dyrkning og valgte frivilligt at forlade Vinea Wachau-klassifikationen for kompromisløst at fokusere på terroirdrevet marktypicitet under Wachau DAC. Porteføljen byder på referencepunkter fra berømte enkeltmarker som Ried Kellerberg, Loibenberg og Steinertal samt de legendariske kultcuvéer 'M' og den sublime 'Unendlich'.
