✨ Technical Specifications
The Loibner Oberhauser vineyard sits on a flat, sun-drenched terrace near the Danube in the village of Unterloiben. Unlike the sheer, vertiginous stone terraces of Kellerberg or Loibenberg, Oberhauser features deep, fertile soils of sandy loess and Danube gravel. This unique terroir warms quickly, coaxing a remarkably opulent, exotic, and highly aromatic expression from the Riesling grape. Named 'Smaragd' after the emerald-green lizards that bask on the warm vineyard stones of the Wachau, this wine represents the highest tier of the region's natural ripeness. F.X. Pichler's masterful touch ensures that despite the wine's rich, powerful texture and tropical fruit notes, it maintains a precise, vibrant spine of acidity and a deep, mineral-driven finish.
🍾 About the Producer
Founded in 1898 in the village of Oberloiben in Austria's prestigious Wachau region, Weingut F.X. Pichler is globally celebrated as a benchmark producer of world-class white wines. Elevated to international renown by Franz Xaver (F.X.) Pichler and guided today by Lucas Pichler, the estate adheres to a meticulous viticultural philosophy centered on terroir precision, minimal cellar intervention, and the expression of ancient, primary rock terraces. Sourced from legendary steep vineyard sites such as Kellerberg, Loibenberg, and Steinertal, their dry white wines showcase extraordinary concentration, minerality, and tension. The winery is particularly famed for its powerful, age-worthy Grüner Veltliner and Riesling bottlings, highlighted by monumental flagship cuvées like 'Unendlich'.
