β¨ Technical Specifications
Crafted by the historic Frescobaldi family, whose winemaking legacy in Tuscany spans over seven hundred years, this Vin Santo represents one of Italy's most poetic dessert wine traditions. The name 'Vin Santo' or 'Holy Wine' is steeped in folklore, historically linked to its use in Holy Communion and its traditional pressing during Holy Week. Frescobaldi crafts this amber nectar primarily from Trebbiano Toscano and Malvasia grapes, which are meticulously harvested and dried on straw mats in well-ventilated rooms to concentrate their natural sugars. The dried grapes are then gently pressed and the must is transferred into small, sealed wooden barrels called 'caratelli'. These barrels, containing the 'madre' (a historic starter yeast culture passed down through generations), are left in the winery's rafters to endure the extreme temperature fluctuations of the Tuscan seasons. Over several years of slow fermentation and oxidative aging, the wine develops its signature complexity, offering rich aromas of dried apricot, honey, toasted hazelnut, and warm baking spices balanced by a vibrant vein of acidity.
