Sorì Tildìn is one of Gaja's most legendary single-vineyard expressions, situated on a prized hilltop in Barbaresco, Piedmont. The term 'Sorì' denotes a south-facing slope where the winter snow melts first, signaling exceptional sun exposure and terroir. Acquired by the Gaja family in 1967, the vineyard was named 'Tildìn' in honor of Clotilde Rey, Angelo Gaja's grandmother, whose uncompromising commitment to quality shaped the winery's philosophy. Historically produced as a Barbaresco, it was classified as Langhe DOC for several vintages to allow the traditional blending of a small percentage of Barbera with the dominant Nebbiolo, before returning to its 100% Nebbiolo Barbaresco DOCG designation. The wine undergoes fermentation in stainless steel, followed by aging in a combination of French barriques and traditional large oak casks. This meticulous process yields a red wine of profound complexity, characterized by elegant floral aromas, dark cherry notes, refined minerality, and structured, silky tannins.

🍾 wine.about_producer

Founded in 1859 by Giovanni Gaja in the village of Barbaresco, Piedmont, Gaja is one of the world's most legendary wine estates, celebrated for revolutionizing Italian viticulture. Under the visionary leadership of Angelo Gaja, who joined the family business in 1961, the winery pioneered modern techniques in the Langhe, including green harvesting, temperature-controlled fermentations, and aging in French barriques. Gaja is globally renowned for its iconic single-vineyard Nebbiolo bottlings, such as Sor'i San Lorenzo, Costa Russi, and Sperss, alongside pioneering white wines like Gaia & Rey. The family has since expanded its uncompromising pursuit of quality to Tuscany, producing acclaimed Brunello di Montalcino at Pieve Santa Restituta and Bolgheri blends at Ca' Marcanda.
