Domaine de la Chaponne is a jewel within the Morgon Cru of Beaujolais, managed by the Gu rin family and championed globally by the legendary negociant Georges Duboeuf. Crafted from 100% Gamay, this wine is rooted in the appellation's celebrated decomposed schist and granite soils, often referred to locally as 'roche pourrie' or rotten rock. This unique terroir imparts a muscular structure and deep mineral complexity rarely found in lighter Beaujolais appellations. Traditionally vinified to preserve both vibrant fruit and serious tannic depth, the wine showcases the classic Morgon phenomenon known as 'morgonner'—a term used by locals to describe how the wine, with a few years of bottle age, develops earthy, forest-floor complexities reminiscent of fine Pinot Noir from the Cte d'Or.
