Domaine des Versauds is a distinguished estate situated in the heart of Morgon, one of the most celebrated Crus of Beaujolais. Managed under the legendary stewardship of Georges Duboeuf, this wine showcases the profound depth that the Gamay grape can achieve when rooted in Morgon's unique terroir of decomposed schist and iron-rich granite soils, locally known as 'roche pourrie'. Unlike the lighter, ephemeral styles of Beaujolais Nouveau, Domaine des Versauds undergoes a more traditional vinification, resulting in a structured, robust red wine. It weaves a rich tapestry of dark cherry, fleshy plum, and cracked black pepper, underpinned by a distinct mineral vein. Over time, this wine undergoes the famous transformation known locally as 'morgonner', where it develops complex, earthy notes reminiscent of aged Burgundy.
