Gérard Bertrand's An 118 pays tribute to the historic year of 118 BC, when the Romans founded Narbonne, the first Roman colony in Gaul, and planted the region's very first vineyards along the Via Domitia. Produced under the Coteaux de Narbonne IGP, this red blend brings together the structural depth of Cabernet Sauvignon and the rich, spicy character of Syrah. The vines thrive in clay-limestone soils under a Mediterranean climate, where hot, sunny days are tempered by cooling maritime breezes. Bertrand, a champion of Languedoc winemaking, utilizes traditional maceration and careful temperature control to craft a wine that marries the blackcurrant and structured tannins of Cabernet with the plush dark fruit and peppery notes of Syrah, offering a vibrant and approachable taste of southern French history.
