Deep in the remote, wild valley of the River Livet, George Smith famously risked the wrath of local illicit distillers to establish the first licensed distillery in the parish in 1824. The Glenlivet's signature bright, elegant, and fruity spirit is shaped by the mineral-rich waters of Josie's Well and the tall, lantern-shaped copper pot stills designed by Smith himself. This 13-year-old expression is matured exclusively in first-fill American white oak casks. These casks, previously used only to age American bourbon, impart a lavish layer of sweet vanilla, creamy coconut, and warm baking spices onto the distillery's classic orchard-fruit and floral character, creating a beautifully balanced and velvety single malt.

The Glenlivet blev grundlagt i 1824 af George Smith i den afsidesliggende Livet Valley og var det første lovlige destilleri i sognet efter vedtagelsen af The Excise Act i 1823. Destilleriet ligger højt i Speyside og henter sit rene, mineralrige vand fra Josie's Well, hvilket danner grundlag for en langsom og kontrolleret gæringsproces. The Glenlivet er berømt for sine karakteristiske lanterneformede kobberkedler med lange, slanke halse, der sikrer en intens kobberkontakt og et højt tilbageløb. Denne særlige konstruktion resulterer i et bemærkelsesværdigt elegant, esterdrevet og floralt destillat, kendetegnet ved fine signaturnoter af grønne æbler, modne pærer og blomstrende frugttræer. Fadlagringen spænder vidt fra klassiske bourbonfade af amerikansk hvideg og europæiske sherryfade til fransk Limousin-eg samt innovative aftapninger som Caribbean Reserve. Destilleriet ejes i dag af Pernod Ricard under Chivas Brothers og står fortsat som et globalt referencepunkt for den klassiske single malt-tradition i Speyside.
