✨ Technical Specifications
The Glenlivet's Single Cask Editions represent the pinnacle of the distillery's craft, offering an unadulterated glimpse into the profound interaction between Speyside spirit and individual casks. This rare expression, aged for 15 years in a single Sherry Butt (Cask No. 646) and bottled in 2017, showcases the intense influence of European oak. Historically, the remote Glenlivet valley was a haven for illicit distillers who drew water from the mineral-rich springs of the region. George Smith famously braved local hostility to secure the first legal license in the parish in 1824, establishing a style defined by bright, elegant fruitiness. This single cask bottling bypasses the traditional blending process, presenting the whisky at cask strength without chill-filtration, allowing the rich, dried-fruit and spiced character of the sherry butt to integrate beautifully with the distillery's signature orchard-fruit profile.
🍾 About the Producer
Founded in 1824 by George Smith in the remote Livet Valley of Speyside, Scotland, The Glenlivet holds historic distinction as the first legally licensed distillery in the parish following the 1823 Excise Act. Today part of Chivas Brothers under Pernod Ricard, the distillery draws mineral-rich water from Josie's Well and employs tall, lantern-shaped copper pot stills to achieve a remarkably light and refined distillation. The Glenlivet is celebrated for setting the benchmark of classic Speyside single malt whisky, defined by a smooth, fruit-forward profile laden with orchard apples, delicate floral tones, and subtle oak, as showcased in acclaimed expressions ranging from its iconic 12 Year Old to rare editions in the Winchester and Cellar Collections.
