✨ Technical Specifications
Glenmorangie's Bacalta, the eighth release in the distillery's acclaimed Private Edition series, is a sun-baked masterpiece of wood finishing. "Bacalta" is Scots Gaelic for "baked," a direct nod to the sun-drenched island of Madeira where its finishing casks originated. The journey of this Highland single malt begins in the shadow of Glenmorangie's legendary copper stills—the tallest in Scotland—which yield an exceptionally elegant and delicate spirit. After initial maturation in ex-bourbon barrels, the whisky is transferred to bespoke casks that previously held sweet Malmsey Madeira wine. These casks were specifically toasted and seasoned under the intense Madeira sun according to the exacting specifications of Dr. Bill Lumsden. This meticulous process infuses the whisky with a complex, dessert-like character, rich with notes of caramelized peaches, honeycomb, dates, and warm baking spices, bridging the rugged Highlands of Scotland with the volcanic, sun-kissed slopes of Madeira.
🍾 About the Producer
Founded in 1843 by William Matheson on the tranquil shores of the Dornoch Firth near Tain in the Scottish Highlands, Glenmorangie is celebrated globally as a pioneer of Highland single malt Scotch whisky. The distillery is famed for possessing the tallest copper pot stills in Scotland, whose soaring swan necks allow only the lightest and purest vapours to ascend, yielding an exceptionally delicate and floral new-make spirit. Utilizing mineral-rich water from the protected Tarlogie Springs and premium Scottish barley, Glenmorangie has long led the industry in revolutionary wood management and bespoke cask finishing under the stewardship of Moët Hennessy. Their expansive portfolio ranges from the quintessential, citrus-and-vanilla-laden 'The Original' to intricate, chocolate-malt innovations like Signet and highly collectible rare vintage expressions.
